We Demand a Recount: Mittens Not the Worst Quarterback of All Time
By Brinson | June 26, 2008
Pro Football Reference is a highly valuable resource of statistical goodness. If you like stats and like sports, I suggest checking it out. However, I may be inclined to disagree with Chase Stuart’s recent post detailing the worst quarterbacks in the history of the NFL.
You see, the blog’s patron saint/namesake checked in as only the third worst quarterback of all time, right behind Joey Harrington and Rick Mirer. Go ahead, check for yourself.
Quarterback Att Rate
Joey Harrington 2538 -2129
Rick Mirer 2043 -2081
David Carr 2206 -1804
Ryan Leaf 655 -1607
Frank Tripucka 1745 -1519
Now, don’t get wrong. Joey Harrington sucks. Badly. Plus, his name is “Joey!” That’s a ton of negative points right there. But Mittens. Man, Mittens. He was bad. (And for the record, I would totally be willing to place a large amount of money on Mittens being worse than Harrington this year if there were available odds.)
And the thing is too, Harrington was always targeted as a huge bust his entire career because he came out of the gate egging for a team that should have been good. And because Matt Millen kept plowing through draft picks on wide receivers. Mittens, on the other hand, somehow got excused for his below mediocrity through a horrible Texans team. But he couldn’t even get the ball to Steve Smith last year. Which is beyond ridiculous.
Again, I’m willing to concede that the stats don’t lie and that Joe[y] Harrington is a joke. But I’ve never seen anything worse than what Mister Mittens did to our squad last year. And I hope I never do again.
