Stewart to Get First Team Reps Saturday
By Brinson | August 20, 2008
DeAngelo Williams v. Jonathan Stewart is easily one of the better starting battles heading into the 2008 season, and certainly one that matters a whole helluva lot of us Cats fans.
I mean, it matters, but it’s not Earth shattering, since both will get run. But it’ll be interesting to see what the administration thinks will get them the most bang for their buck. And despite DeAngelo’s strong performance so far in the not-season, Stewart is going to get some run with the first team this weekend.
Rookie running back Jonathan Stewart is likely to get some rushing attempts behind the Panthers’ first-team offensive line in Saturday night’s home exhibition against Washington, according to coach John Fox.Stewart had four carries for three yards in the third quarter of last Thursday’s exhibition at Philadelphia, but he ran only behind the second-team line.
And, as well all know, running behind the second team line isn’t really anything remotely resembling getting a shot to produce. I’m expecting some pretty strong between the tackles running, just like I expect from Stewart all season, but at the same time, I think the coaching staff will be fairly cautious with him, making sure not to overextend him in a preseason game.
