Ian Scott Says Goodbye
By Brinson | August 21, 2008

Ian Scott was seen — I think — as one of those classic John Fox reclamation projects, the kind of guy that the Panthers could pick up who would produce like an All-Pro at a low-pro price (or perhaps these don’t exist and the Cats just keep taking chances on losers).
But things just didn’t work out and Scott is now adios, amigo.
“He did everything right. He was a kid we liked and it was very unfortunate,” coach John Fox said. “The way it worked out there’s a chance when he gets healthy that we can bring him back later in the season. We felt like we dealt with him fairly and he did a fantastic job for us.”
Such is the harsh reality of professional football, where being injured doesn’t guarantee you a roster spot, especially out of training camp.
As MDS points out — and kind of emphasized by Fox above — the Panthers wouldn’t be able to pick Scott back up until after the ninth game of the season. At which point we certainly won’t be sink/swim, but we’ll have a pretty good idea if we want to dump a couple mil into a potentially high impact guy that just can’t stay healthy.
