Everyone Be Cool - Preseason Starter News
By Brinson | August 28, 2008

I’ll admit I panicked a little when I switched over to Raycom’s “awesome HD feed” to see Matt Moore playing in the first quarter (NCSU football comes before preseason, sorry) and Jake Delhomme on the sideline. And by “panicked a little”, I actually mean “screamed obscenities and started sobbing gently onto my keyboard”.
Fortunately, it’s no big deal. Thanks Chuck Chandler.
For the first time in franchise history, the Panthers’ starters on offense and defense are being held out of the final exhibition. In a bit of a surprise move, coach John Fox is resting his first- and second- teamers on both sides of the ball. He clearly doesn’t want to risk an injury, especially after last week’s impressive 47-3 win at home over Washington.
Furthermore, it looks like neither of the team’s top two running backs, Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams will play.
Annnnnnnnd breathe. Thank goodness. I back the hell out of this move, personally, just because there is absolutely zero reason to let an important starter get hurt in a totally unimportant game. We’ve already looked great early and we need our backups to get some big run so they’re prepared in the obvious scenario of injured starters.
