Horse of Night: Moore Has a Busted Fibula and Basanez Is Back
By Brinson | September 4, 2008
Things we absolutely do not need this year include: less quarterbacks. Problem: we now have less quarterbacks. Well, actually, we have the same number, but the quality is lower, because the Cats just signed Brett Basanez in order to deal with Matt Moore fracturing his fibula in practice on Wednesday afternoon. Oh. Joy.
The injury stems from the hit Moore took last week in the preseason finale against Pittsburgh.
“We had done some x-rays and an MRI on his leg (after the Steelers game) and everything was fine,” Hurney said. “But after one throw today he felt a pop and we took him in for another x-ray. It was a fractured fibula. We’ll take it week-to-week with Matt. Fortunately, it’s not a season-ending thing.”
Hurney said Moore will not go on injured reserve.
Now, in an ideal world this won’t matter one bit. Jake Delhomme will stay healthy all season long and end up taking us to a Super Bowl. (Yes, I smoke a ton of crack in the ideal world, why do you ask?)
The reality is that this is precisely why we traded for Josh McCown. Well, it’s also why we picked up Mittens last year, so I guess that doesn’t really make it a valid point. Anyway, this is bad news. We need Moore healthy. (And yes, I wholeheartedly apologize for my recent lack of posting and above expert analysis; things are busy at FanHouse for fantasy football season. Go check it out.)
