Live Blog Coming at 4:00 P.M.Kickoff: 4:00P.M.
Announcers: Ron Pitts and Tony Boselli
Why you should you be here? Because you’re watching some Cowboys-Patriots matchup you may have heard about and you want comically efficient information on what’s going down at the Taco. Plus, you heart mittens.
3:45 p.m. - I somehow can’t find anywhere that’s trying to tell what David Carr’s status is. WTF.
3:50 p.m. - Early fantasy monsters include Adrian Peterson with 230 rushing yards and three TDs, Braylon Edwards making the Dolphins pay for passing over on him in the draft for Ronnie Brown with a trifecta of touches as well. Maurice Jones Drew finally went off as well as the Jaguars are routing the snot out of the Texans
.3:55- Speaking of which, did anyone else know that the Jaguars mascot is named “Jackson DeVille”? I find that hysterical. At one point Gus Johnson might have called him the greatest mascot in the history of the game.
4:07 - Arizona pick up of five by Edge. Warner wide open to Lary Fitz and FUMBLE!!!! No way he wasn’t down. No chance this isn’t…well, no one touched him…this would be monster.
4:08 - VINNY on the field. Along with a red flag. Obviously Arizona is going to challenge this.
4:10 - It bothers me that commercials happen
4:18 - Quick false start, followed by a shortie to DeShaun Foster, another PF 15 yarder on Jordan Gross, a sharp nine yarder to Steve Smith and a check down to Jeff King. So Vinny’s a fan of Jordan Gross early. Could have been worse, right? Right???
4:19 - And yeah, I blacked out on the live blog feature for Wordpress plus some timing issues. My apologies. We’re in full live blog rhythm now.
4:20 - Third and three….Warner in shotgun….yessir! Sacktime for Lewis. “Most production we’ve seen” from Julius Peppers. Seve Smith on the return…ahhh…blocked by his own man.
4:22 - Lots of penalties early and it’s first down for Vinny and the Cats from the 25. Let’s get a healthy dose of Mr. Foster please.
4:23 - Two isn’t healthy for anyone. Particularly my fantasy teams. Or anyone I told to start Foster. By the way, apologies to anyone who benched Adrian Peterson this week. Second down, they run “Smoke”- a quick hit to Steve Smith and Smuff is rocked for a loss.
4:25 - Third and long and…guess what? A short draw. Cats punt. Some things never change. 25 yard punt and holy nighthorse. Buzzsaw ball around midfield.
4:28 - Quick handoff to Edge and he’s swallowed up by the d-line. Second and six with the announcers chatting about baseball–which reminds us how nice it is that Joe Velvet Buck isn’t in the house…and a quick penalty on Kris Jenkins. 2nd and one. 400 yards of penalties in the first half. This is embarrassing. Mittens does not approve
4:30 - Peppers in quick on Warner…..FUMBLE!!! CATS BALL!!!! Peppers first sack of the day, Warner is shook up and we’ve got the ball in Arizona territory all of a sudden. Word, Pepp!!!
4:31 - If you don’t love screen shots of Tim Rattay, you’re in the wrong spot, folks. Vinny quick hits to Foster and Colbert and it’s a Panthers…nope. Second and three. Impressive.
4:32 - Vinny is threading the needle kids. You’re just in the wrong game if you’re watching this Brady guy. BIG mistake by New England to let this youngster go.
4:33 - Nice dig by DeAngelo Williams. Kurt Warner just walked to the locker room. Good night Buzzsaw. Big third and one after Vinny finds Steve Smith.
4:34 - Foster you ass. That was six. No fault of Vinny’s. I say go here but I imagine Fox hands it Kasay. Yep. Up and buried. Kasay’s such a stud.
4:35 - I’m absolutely giddy about seeing Tim Rattay half heartedly shaking his head in a “Yeah…I’m ready” type of affirmation.
4:36 - In case you’re curious, LaDanian Tomlinson is shoring up that first round pick for you fantasy owners. Second TD of the game. He might have nine today.
4:38 - They just showed the Warner injury again and DAMN. His elbow is donecakes–it’s non throwing but “strained left elbow” “return is questionable” and yeah, Ron, that did look more than strained. “Back and to the left.”
4:39 - 3rd and six for the Cards after Rattay hit Ken Wisenhunt in the head with a first down throw and a short run on second. Buzzsaw timeout.
4:40 - Warner is back. You want to talk about mistake. False start. Third and 11. Tim Rattay was created for third and elevens.
4:41 - Rattay takes off scrambling (WTF?) gets grabbed from behind and coughs the ball up. Peppers is getting f’ing loose, folks. Rattay recovers his fumble but that’s three early for the Cards. We like this.
4:42 - Nice return by Ryan Robinson indeed. Cats ball on their own 41.
4:43 - That was a quadruple end around double reverse that netted eight yards. And Vinny! laying down sick blocks.
4:44 - Annnnnd another penalty. This is GD ridiculous. Vinny looks a little frustrated right now. Tendinitis tends to do that to you. Seriously though, he looks great. Foster upended as he hit the whole on second and eight and we’ve got a long third down coming up.
4:45 - Are you kidding me??? Third and eight and Vinny goes up top to Steve Smith…underthrown a little but Smuff saw it coming and got back to it. Gain of 30 plus 29. Foster time.
4:46 - Or not. Incomplete short to Smith and DeAngelo stuffed in the backfield to give us third and fifteen as the first quarter ends. Wow. Three Cards fumbles, Vinny looks great and Warner’s injured? If you had told me that before the game started, I’d have taken it and run. Even if we’re only up three.
4:48 - We’ll be back briefly. If you think this isn’t more exciting than the Pats-Cards game, you’re crazy. You know what else? The fact that Vinny spurned the Cardinals offer to be backup is so heavily underreported. He would be starting against Matt Moore Drew Bledsoe Jeff George?
14:30, 2nd quarter - End around to Smuff bring up fourth and Kasay chips a 33 yarder home. Cats 6, Saw 0.
13:30 - Edge picks up a first down. Cards are kind of moving and yeah, we switched from actual time to “game time”. That was stupid of us. Sorry for the confusion.
12:43 - Edge rips off nine yards and is getting warm….
11:57 - Hehehehehhe. Rattay with another fumble. Third and two. Let’s get a Peppers snuff on Edge please.
11:15 - Rattay with a horrible throw and Fitzy with a disgusting one handed, one foot catch that the refs rule a force out. Seems like horsecaka to us. Also sucks that you can’t review a force out. What a yoke. Please make Tim Rattay throw again. Niiiiice. Fox has stones. He does not care if you can’t challenge. He’s doing it anyway.
9:15 - Carolina lost the challenge. No huge surprise. Edge for no gain and all of sudden Rattay is finding a rhythm. I kid you not. This guy, according to our announcing crew, has what it takes to be an NFL quarterback. Arizona timeout.
8:40 - Breaston right end for 10 and a first down followed by Edge getting stuffed. Ratty swing it out but there’s an offsides flag. Tim Rattay is in firm command of this game. Probably my fault.
7:16 - Nighthorse. Edge just shredded 22 defenders on a 23 yard rumble to the end zone. “Edgerrin James isn’t known as a power back”, eh? I would probably argue that. I think Edge and his sick grill probably would too. 12 plays, 80 yards 7:34 drive. What a straight up March. How the hell are we losing this game.
7:11 - Vinny and the Cats from the 40. Pitch to Foster and he gets racked by Adrian Wilson. Fox just flashed that Vinny is 9 of 11 for 68 yards. So conservatively stout.
6:22 - 2nd and nine, Vinny drops back and hits Smuff for 2nd and three.
6:00 - YES! They flash to David Carr on the sideline and he’s rocking the white gloves on the bench. Goddamn Mittens is a badass.
5:55 - Missed pass to Jeff King and Cats punt to five. This is not going well. At least Mittens is in full gear.
4:51 - Night horse. Golden Boy coughed up to the house for the Cowboys D. Why the hell did I start Tennesse? Edge on second and six and he’s brought down for one. The announcers just threw out, “No offense to Tim Rattay, but it’s not like he’s Vinny Testaverde…” Fantastic.
4:14 - Superb open field tackle by Thomas Davis to force the Saw into a punt. Barr, by the way, has the shortest punting average in the NFL. Ryan Robinson with a sick return that he almost fumbled - great job holding onto it. Cats with great field position again. We really have to capitalize here.
3:14 - And Vinny’s on the run!! What a move to the right, out of the tackle box on play action to get it away without a grounding penalty.
3:11 - 2nd and 10 and a not-so-fantastic play call as a dump off to Hoover. Come on Davidson. Fox flashes a two for seven on third downs stat for the Cats. Unacceptable. If you read Football Outsiders, you’ll know this is why we struggled last year.
3:07 - Gross. That screen pass could have been way worse. And the Cats are punting. Why aren’t we at least taking a shot downfieeld to smith. Late flag…………come on roughing the punter…..
2:55 - And running into. Damn. Fox is looking for another 10. WOW! What a superb flop by Baker on that. The announcers want a penalty on Baker? Pshaw. That’s what you do. Time for the Tim Rattay two minute drive into Neil Rackers how-the-eff-are-we-losing by four nightmare we all know and love.
- “The one thing about every Kelsey Grammar show he’s ever been on, is it’s funny.” I’ve never heard an announcing booth that silent in my entire life.
2:35 - Cats with no timeouts, hand off to Edge and the Saw is just trying to get to halftime with one quarterback standing. Quick hit to Bryant Johnson and third down will take us to the two minute warning.
2:00 - How disappointing is this game by the way? Not only do the Cats look lethargic but there isn’t a single mitten involved in the game right now. What a disaster.
1:15 - Trey and nada as the Cards punt. Vinny’s got a minute 0-6 to get us in Kasay range.
:57 - Vinny sacked and it should be a one run from Foster to the half type of thing. Let’s get the F out of here Fox.
:19 - DeAngelo almost gets loose. No timeouts left and we’re at halftime.
Third Quarter Live Blog (yeah, we should have split up the first half) HERE.
